Abrar Ahmed Early Cricketing Career

When he was only nine years old, he played tape-ball cricket for about four years before he heard about a cricket trial at Rashid Latif’s academy. The then Pakistan’s U19 coach, Muhammad Masroor was left stunned by Abrar’s magical deliveries while overseeing the trials.
In 2016, Abrar racked up 53 wickets in Zonal U19 in Karachi and received a massive opportunity to represent the Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Karachi Kings becoming one of the emerging picks. Abrar boasts of scalping 76 wickets in 26 innings in his First-Class cricket.
Abrar Ahmed Domestic Career

A product of the Rashid Latif Academy, he made his Twenty20 debut for Karachi Kings on 10 February 2017 in the 2017 Pakistan Super League. He made his first-class debut on 20 November 2020, for Sindh, in the 2020–21 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. In October 2021, he was named in the Pakistan Shaheens squad for their tour of Sri Lanka. He made his List A debut on 11 November 2021, for the Pakistan Shaheens against the Sri Lanka A cricket team.

The 24-year-old Mystery Spinner, who plays for Sindh, had claimed 43 wickets at an average of 21.95. He has recorded five five-wicket hauls in six matches and has played an integral role in turning his side to secure a berth in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final in 2022. He was the leading wicket-taker in this Quaid-e-Azam trophy 2022 with 43 wickets. For this outstanding performance, he has been rewarded with a maiden national side Test call-up against England.

“As I started to take wickets in 3 to 4 matches in the ongoing season of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy, my fellow teammates started to tell me that your name will be included in the squad. Sarfaraz Ahmed continuously said you are doing well, your name will be included, and you will play,” Abrar told the reporters.

Abrar Ahmed is the first bowler in Pakistan’s Test history to take five wickets in the first session on his Test debut.

Only two Pakistan bowlers to take a seven-wicket haul on Test debut before Abrar Ahmed in the second Test against England in Multan. Mohammad Nazir had picked 7 for 99 on his debut against New Zealand in 1969, while Mohammad Zahid bettered those figures with 7 for 66 also against New Zealand in 1996.
