Who is Bismah Maroof?

With over 200 international games to her name, Bismah Maroof is one of the most experienced cricketers in Pakistan Women’s current setup. She is left handed top order batter. She was the first woman to score 1,000 runs in ODIs for Pakistan.

Former Pakistani women’s cricketer Urooj Mumtaz has declared all-rounder Bismah Maroof a better player than the current top-ranked batter Babar Azam.

Urooj Mumtaz gave the shocking statement during a TV show. She also said that Bismah Maroof is the Babar Azam of women’s cricket and at times, the all-rounder is a better player than Azam.

The video of her statement went viral on the internet.

She was part of the team that won a gold medal against Bangladesh at the 2010 Asian Games in China. She was named vice-captain of the Pakistan squad that won a second successive gold medal against Bangladesh at the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea.On 11 October 2017, Bismah was selected as captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team ahead of the New Zealand series in the UAE. In the series, Pakistan won their first ever ODI against the New Zealand in the third match. In March 2018, under her captaincy Pakistan clean swept Sri Lanka 3-0 in the ODI series on the Sri Lanka tour. This was only the second time that the Pakistan team won an ODI series 3-0. In the T20 series, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka 2-1. She was the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup, with 143 runs in five matches.

Under her captainship, Pakistan’s ODI team played 34 matches and won 16, while the T20I side won 27 out of 62 matches, the PCB said in a statement released today.

“There has been no bigger honour for me than leading the Pakistan team,” Bismah said on Twitter.
