Mike Hesson appointed Islamabad United head coach for PSL 2024

Islamabad United have appointed former New Zealand coach and Royal Challengers Bangalore director Mike Mike Hesson as their head coach. United praised Hesson’s “exceptional track record in international cricket and a reputation for strategic leadership”, and said he would bring “unparalleled excellence and experience” to the team.

“Mike is very strategic and analytical on his approach, has proven skills of creating new and modern ways of playing – something his NZ stint demonstrates – and is a great people-manager,” United owner Ali Naqvi told ESPNcricinfo. “These are all the attributes ISLU has focussed on as a team from season one. In some ways he is a perfect fit. This is a big endorsement on the brand and quality of cricket played at PSL and how United is viewed by global cricket professionals.”

In an official statement, Naqvi said he was “thrilled to bring in a globally accomplished and premier name like Hesson to Islamabad United. His rich history in coaching and his exceptional work with New Zealand and RCB make him the ideal choice to lead our team. Captain Shadab Khan retained in the Platinum category. Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Asif Ali also retained in the Diamond category. Hasan Ali, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf are promoted from Gold to Diamond. Imad Wasim joins Islamabad United, Hasan Ali traded to Karachi Kings ahead of 2024 season

HBL PSL 5 winning captain Imad Wasim joined Islamabad United colours in the ninth edition of the tournament. Imad, who was named as the All-Rounder of HBL PSL 8, has been snapped by Islamabad United in the Platinum category while Hasan Ali (Diamond category) moves to Karachi Kings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the decision on Wednesday, 29 November, that Wasim, who was named as the all-rounder of the tournament in the previous edition of the tournament would be playing for Islamabad United in the next season as their Platinum category draft pick.

It will be a huge signing for Islamabad United as Imad Waseem is World class all rounder and was named all rounder in the previously concluded PSL 2023.

Naseem Shah traded to Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators traded him with Abrar Ahmed & Mohammad Wasim Jr for PSL 2024

Biggest trade of PSL history happened as Quetta Gladiators traded Naseem Shah with Islamabad United for PSL 9. Excellent retention strategy by Islamabad United management. Islamabad United retained their impact and core players. In this retention there are two foreign players ,Alex Hales and Colin Munro. Islamabad United released Asif Ali. I think that is a massive miss from them. Asif Ali yesterday made New York Strikers champions in the T10 League played in UAE. All other players like Gurbaz, Striling, Sohaib Maqsood, Tom Curran, Dussen, Zeeshan Zamir, Hassan Nawaz all are liability players and are released.
