His coach from Peshawar U19 days, Sajid Shah said I used to rate Haris highly. His fearless attitude (was) like Dhoni’s against Inzamam’s team when he scored a hundred. Everybody was stunned to see who this was!”
The curious nature of Haris shows up in his cricket training as well. “I watch videos of every bowler… I watch very closely, their slower balls, their knuckleballs. What they do in the death overs, first six overs, the middle overs. I watch that very closely,” he says. That was not the only thing that helped him make the transition up to the national team.
Mohammad Haris started playing cricket in 2015. He joined his Peshawar U19 team and was soon included in the Pakistan U19 team. On a tour of South Africa, he made five half-centuries out of 7 matches that put him on the radar of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was selected by Peshawar Zalmi, a PSL franchise. He played 5 games in the last PSL edition and scored 166 runs at a strike rate of 186.52 and a top score of 70.
He then made 239 runs in eight matches for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan Cup, which included a top score of 75, at an average of 39.83.
