The 11th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to begin on December 30, with defending champions Fortune Barishal taking on Durbar Rajshahi in Mirpur.
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 players’ draft has officially concluded, with all franchises solidifying their squads through player retentions, direct signings, and the draft process.
The team is set to face newcomers Durbar Rajshahi in the tournament’s opening match on December 30 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Fortune Barishal expressed their enthusiasm for securing Afridi as a direct signing, stating, “Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will play for Fortune Barishal in the upcoming BPL.”
The 24-year-old has received a no-objection certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board and will be available for the first five matches of the league.
BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) ranks as 9th riches cricket league according to average salaries. In other words, BPL is the 3rd poorest league very average players salaries after Abu Dhabi T10 league and SLPL.
Most Expensive BPL Teams 2024-25
Teams had strict budgets to work within, with a maximum limit of 4 crore BDT for domestic players and 3 crore BDT for international players. Despite the financial constraints, some franchises spent lavishly to assemble star-studded teams, while others took a more economical approach.
The defending champions, emerged as the highest spenders, shelling out an estimated 5.48 crore BDT.Following Barishal, Sylhet Strikers came in second in terms of spending, with a total of 3.26 crore BDT.Khulna Tigers ranked third with a budget of 3.24 crore BDT.
Meanwhile, the returning franchise, Chittagong Kings, made a splash with a 2.76 crore BDT investment, securing Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, and a number of international and local talents.
Durbar Rajshahi, a new entrant to the league, spent 2.61 crore BDT to form a team around emerging stars like Jishan Alam and Akbar Ali. Similarly, Dhaka Capitals, another fresh franchise, secured Litton Das, Habibur Rahman Sohan, and Saim Ayub for a total of 2.60 crore BDT.
Surprisingly, despite having one of the biggest budgets, Rangpur Riders spent the least amount—just 2.12 crore BDT. They built a balanced squad, with major signings like Mohammad Saifuddin, Iftikhar Ahmed, Alex Hales, and Mohammad Nabi, proving that big names don’t always require big spending.
The payout system for cricketers in categories A, B, and C has experienced notable reductions this season. Category A athletes will now earn BDT 6 million, a decrease from BDT 8 million. In Category B, salaries have been trimmed by BDT 1 million, resulting in a new total of BDT 4 million. Meanwhile, Category C players will take home BDT 2.5 million, instead of BDT 3 million. In contrast, the remuneration for categories D, E, and F remains constant at BDT 2 million, BDT 1.5 million, and BDT 1 million, respectively.
Most Expensive Local Players of BPL 2024-25
Some of the big picks in the BPL 2025 draft include Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was picked by defending champions Fortune Barishal.
Leading the charge in Category A are prominent figures such as Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahmudullah. Notably, Rishad’s ascent from Category E to Category A is significant. This category features a total of 12 players.
Section B is also home to 12 players, showcasing talents like Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tanzim Sakib, Afif Hossain, and Jaker Ali.
Meanwhile, Section C comprises 22 players, including esteemed cricketers such as Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, and Saifuddin.
Categories D, E, and F collectively include 28, 51, and 63 players, respectively.
Most Expensive Overseas Players in BPL 2024-2025
With the BPL 2025 players’ draft drawing near, excitement is building around the inclusion of 440 foreign players in the upcoming draft. Among them, 20 elite players have been placed in the highest ‘A’ category, commanding a top salary of USD 70,000 (equivalent to BDT 8.3 million). The draft is expected to create buzz, with several renowned international stars spread across five categories. The variety of options will give franchises ample choices to build competitive squads.
Big names in the ‘A’ category include Josh Little, Lewis Gregory, Peter Siddle, Dawid Malan, Hazratullah Zazai, Ollie Robinson, Martin Guptill, Qais Ahmad, George Munsey, Shane Dowrich, Carlos Brathwaite, Luke Wood, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Wasim, Nandre Burger, Usama Mir, Mohammad Haris, Saim Ayub, Pathum Nissanka, and Alex Hales, Shaheen Shah Afridi. The BPL governing council is providing flexibility by not imposing a strict limit on the number of overseas players, allowing teams to sign as many as they need.

The Bangladesh Premier League 2024 winning team would get USD 1 Million(equivalent to BDT 2 crore). The winning team of the BPL season 2024 will get a total of $1m, distributed equally among the entire team and personnel.
Runner up of BPL 2024 will be paid USD 500,000. 3rd place team will be paid USD 300,000 and 4th place team will be paid USD 250,000.

Fortune Barishal have another strong line-up for 2025. Tamim Iqbal leads a team that is nicknamed the “national team”, for the number of Bangladesh stars in it.
