Most Expensive players of SA20-2025
The tournament set to kick off on January 9, 2025, and the final scheduled for February 8.
Interestingly, all 6 teams of the SA20 are owned by IPL owners.
The squad must include a minimum of 10 South African players. A maximum of 7 overseas players are allowed. Each team can have one wild card player whose fee is excluded from the salary cap. Maximum salary cap for each team stands at R39.1. Teams can also include one rookie player, defined as a South African player aged 22 or young on the day of the auction and who has not previously played in SA 20.
SAT20 is the 3rd most richest Cricket T20 league in terms of salaries. Averag salary of each player is USD110,000. Wild card player miniumum salary is USD 175,000.
BBL clubs have seen their player payment pool skyrocket to 39.1 Million South African Rand (USD 2.09 million) for each Franchise team.
Each team can retain upto maximum of 19 players in the squad. 114 players divided among 6 teams.
Maximum cap for SA20 is USD 12.55 million.
Most Expensive Player of SA20-2025
This is the 3rd edition of SA20 taking place in 2025.More than 180 cricketers including 115 South Africans and 73 overseas cricketers earlier registered for the SA20 2025 auction.
South Africa’s Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma, Kamindu Mendis, Naseem Shah, Joshua Little and Tony de Zorzi were some of the big names that went unsold at SA20 auction.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the defending champions of the SA20 title after they defeated Durban’s Super Giants by 89 runs in the 2024 final in Cape Town.
Reeza Hendricks
South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks was the most expensive buy at SA20 2025 players auction for R4.30 million. A total of 13 players were sold alongside six rookie stars.
The third edition of the SA20 auction, held in Cape Town on Tuesday, was full of excitement as six franchises vied to complete their 19-player squads for the upcoming 2025 season. In a fierce bidding war, Proteas batsman Reeza Hendricks emerged as the most expensive player.He signed with MI Cape Town for a staggering R4.30 million.
His addition is expected to add significant firepower to their top order. Known for his ability to anchor innings while accelerating when needed, Hendricks will join an already star-studded lineup, featuring players like Ben Stokes and Rashid Khan.
Richard Gleeson
English Pacer was the 2nd most expensive player of SA20-2025 with a whopping price of R2.3 million. He is picked by Sunrisers Eastern Cape in this year.
Evin Lewis
West Indies’ explosive opener Evin Lewis was another exciting acquisition, joining Pretoria Capitals for a base price of R1.5 million. Known for his ability to launch an aggressive assault on bowlers during the powerplay, Lewis brings firepower to an already strong Capitals batting lineup, which includes big-hitting stars like Liam Livingstone and Rilee Rossouw.
Marques Ackerman
South Africa’s uncapped T20 star Marques Ackerman were sold to Pretoria Capitals for R800,000.
Shamar Joseph
Last season’s finalist Durban’s Super Giants filled their only slot by roping in West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph for R425,000.
Kyle Simmonds
The Capitals completed their slots by signing all-rounder Kyle Simmonds for R175,000.
Rubin Hermann
while Paarl Royals filled their remaining slot by signing wicketkeeper-batter Rubin Hermann for R175,000.
Meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings bought all-rounders Wihan Lubbe, Evan Jones and New Zealand’s Doug Bracewell for R175,000 each.

Tristan Stubbs was the most expensive signing at the inaugural SA20 Auction. The young South African wicketkeeper batter earned a contract worth R 9.2 million (₹4.41 crore) from SunRisers Eastern Cape in the player auction. Tristan Stubs salary is USD 492,000. The two seaons at Sunrisers will net him Rand 18 million. 9 million on auction and 9 million to retain him for the season 2024.
