A destructive lower middle-order batsman, Kieron Pollard is also a useful medium pacer with subtle changes of pace.
Multan Sultans picked Kieron Pollard as a foreign player in the Platinum category. Previously Pollard played for Karachi Kings in 2019. This was the 3rd supplementary pick for the Multan Sultans. Indeed a huge and massive signing. Kieron Pollard has brute power as a batsman and can hit the ball out of the ground. He previously played for Mumbai Indians in IPL and contributed a major part in winning 4 IPL trophies. He recently now retired from IPL and now he is selected as the batting coach of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 16 season 2023.

Tim David of Multan Sultans to miss first seven matches of PSL 2023
Multan Sultans will miss the services of Australian cricketer Tim David for the first seven matches of PSL 2023. The development comes after he was advised by his trainer to consider managing his workload. After playing Big Bash season 2022-23. He recently flew to South Africa to play for MI Cape Town in SAT20. He has played over 40 matches in the last six months.
Muhammad Ilyas replaces injured Shahnawaz Dahani for PSL 2023
Multan Sultans pacer Shahnawaz Dahani got injured during the first match of PSL 2023 against Lahore Qalandars. A spokesperson for the franchise confirmed that he was hit on the index finger during the first match. A major blow to Multan Sultans as Dahani is now ruled out for the rest of the PSL 8. The 24-year-old pacer is a permanent feature of the Multan team and has bagged 55 wickets in 41 T20 matches over the course of his career. Muhammad Ilyas joined as a replacement.
Carlos Braithwaite replaced Wayne Parnell in the Multan Sultans squad for PSL 2023
Wayne Parnell will also miss this year’s PSL 2023 due to an injury. Wayne Parnell was selected as a supplementary pick for Adil Rashid but he also became injured during SAT20 recently played in South Africa in this month. Now Carlos Braithwaite from West Indies joined Multan Sultans as a supplementary player. He is recently coming from UAE T20 with great form. Obviously will boost Multan Sultans squad strength which is already picking momentum with the performances of Ihsanullah, Muhammad Rizwan and Rile Rossouw.
Josh Little Ruled Out for PSL 2023
Josh Little, who was selected by Multan Sultans in the overseas platinum category will miss the entire PSL due to injury. Josh little having a hamstring niggle. But the way Multan Sultan’s bowling unit is performing, this is not a big loss. They have a balanced team both in batting and bowling. Josh Little is an Irish bowler who is performing exceptionally in 2022.
Sheldon Cottrell joined Multan Sultans for PSL 8
Multan Sultans received a huge boost as Sheldon Cottrell joined Multan Sultans as a replacement player for Irish pacer Josh Little who was injured and not joined Multan Sultans for Season 8. He is a very lethal and attacking swing bowler. He can win you matches with his major contribution. It will further boost the bowling arsenal of Multan Sultans which is already very dangerous in presence of Ishanullah, Abbas Afridi, Anwar Ali and Usama Mir.
Multan Sultans Squad Strengths for PSL 2023
Multan Sultans has quite a balanced side. Their batting is their main strength. The inclusion of David Miller, Usman khan, and Akeal Hussain further added firepower to their batting. Again the addition of Kieron Pollard as 3rd supplementary player is a huge and massive signing for Multan Sultans. Kieron Pollard is an x-factor player and single-handedly can win matches for his team. Kieron Pollard has the experience of playing all World’s famous T20 Leagues. Now Multan Sultans is a team to beat in the PSL 8. I love Kieron Pollard’s pick and can say that this is the best pick of PSL 2023.
Wayne Parnell is also a good replacement pick as an all-rounder. He can be very handy both with bat and ball.
Both Muhammad Rizwan and Shan Masood are scoring runs for them as openers and one playing the anchoring role to bat deep till 10 to 15 overs. Other on his beast mode.
Then come to their strongest middle-order batters with the likes of Rilee Rossouw, David Miller, Khushdil Shah, and Tim David. All middle order are gun players and in their attacking mode in slog overs. So the batting is the most settled and balanced one. All boxes are ticked in batting for Multan Sultans.
Akeal Hussain and Khushdil Shah are their all-rounders. Spin bowling attacks include Akeal Hussain, Khushdil Shah, and Usama Mir. In fast bowling, Multan Sultan has Josh Little, Shahnawaz Dahani, Sameen Gull, Ihsanullah, and Abbas Afridi. Their captain is also their most powerful strength. Muhammad Rizwan is a young, energetic, and confident leader.
The inclusion of Akeal Hussain, Usama Mir, Adil Rashid, and Josh Little further made their bowling department some great balance. Emerging player and young fast bowler Ihsanullah is also firing thunderbolts and a huge boost for their bowling lineup. He also bowled the fastest spell in the history of PSL against the Quetta Gladiators match.
Multan Sultans Squad Weaknesses for PSL 8
I found a few weaknesses seeing their team this PSL 8 season. Maybe a bit lacking in the fast bowling department. But overall a balanced side. Not so much the bench strength of great fast bowlers as backups.
Sometimes Muhammad Rizwan and Shan Masood as openers go back into the shell and are unable to score at high strike rates in the powerplay. Overseas players’ availability will be another serious issue for them. As South African players David Miller and Rilee Rossouw will be unavailable in playoffs after the 12th of march due to the start of their ODI series. Akeal Hussain West Indies all-rounder will be unavailable at the start of the Playoffs from 2nd week of march.
So our Multan sultan squad analysis for PSL 8 is completed. Covering their release and retentions of players. Also their strengths and weaknesses. Their complete squad of 18 players and the final playing XI.
Final Conclusion on Multan Sultans Squad for PSL 8
Overall a balanced side. Their batting ticked all boxes. Having all firepower to score plenty of runs and can chase any total on the board. Muhamamd Rizwan, Rile Rossouw, David Miller and Time David are already in the purple patch. Spin bowling attack is also a good one with the inclusion of Usama Mir. Muhammad Rizwan is their iconic player both as captain and batsman. Josh Little hope to perform better as an overseas supplementary platinum pick. Ihsanullah is making the most buzz as fiery lanky fast bowler firing thunderbolts above 150kph. He is both fast and furious with accuracy. He is the wisest pick by Multan Sultans. This is absolute gold for them. Multan sultans also picked Kieron Pollard and Carlos Braithwaite as later replacement picks. Now Multan Sultans is my favorite and most formidable team in PSL 8. I am seeing Multan Sultans as the crown champions of PSL 2023. Muhammad Rizwan’s inclusion as captain and batter is also a sign of belief and confidence for Multan Sultans to win the PSL 8.
Multan Sultans performance in the Final of PSL 8
I witnessed a nerve-wracking final won by Lahore Qalandars by just 1 run. Lahore Qalandars’ top order performed well. It was Multans Sultans death bowling that leaked too many runs. It looked Lahore Qalandars will make a maximum of 170. But at the end of the 1st innings, the score was 200. It was a daunting task as Lahore Qalandars have many world-class bowlers in their ranks with the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Zaman Khan, David Wiese and Rashid Khan.
In 2nd innings, Rile Rossouw and Muhammad Rizwan performed well. But when both got out. Multan Sultans middle order struggled to score. Then came Abbas Afridi and he scored 17 runs in just 6 balls and turned the match in the balance. In the last over 13 needed of 6 balls. In the end Lahore Qalandars defended the match with 1 run. Zaman Khan became the hero of the final match. Shahid Afridi was the player of the match due to his exceptional performance in the final. He scored 44 runs from 15 balls. In bowling, he has given 54 runs and took 4 crucial wickets of Kieron Pollard and Tim David.
The main contribution of Multan Sultans as the best unit in the PSL 8 trophy for Multan Sultans will go to their team management and coaching staff with the likes of Andy Flower as their head coach, Abdul Rehman as their Assistant Coach, Mushtaq Ahmed as their Assitant and Spin Bowling Coach and Manager Haider Azhar.
They picked the best pool of players both locally and internationally. Although each time has equal chances to select players from platinum, diamond, gold, silver, and emerging category for both local and international players. But Multan Sultan’s strategy was simply amazing as I observed. They did a lot of hard work to select the best XI of Multan Sultans and they succeeded. No loophole in the team.
Multan Sultans Runner up in PSL 2023
Multan Sultans runner up in PSL 8 and earned prize money of PKR 48 million. Muhammad Rizwan and the team lost in the final by a margin of just 1 run. It was a successful tournament for them. All PSL trophies except the final trophy belonged to them. The best batsman, player of the tournament, bowler of the tournament, the best wicketkeeper, and emerging player all won by Multan Sultans.
