Pitch Report and Analysis of Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad

Narendra Modi Stadium offers five black soil pitches and six red soil pitches to host cricket matches. The black soil surfaces are inclined more towards helping pacers while the red soil helps the spinners and bowlers who generally use variation to deceive the batter. So far, in T20Is, the curators have prepared balanced surfaces.

The wicket in Ahmedabad is excellent for batting. As mentioned above, the batters had a great day in the office during the New Zealand vs England match. Even in the IPL, fans witnessed some high-scoring matches on this ground.

We have seen flat tracks in both ODI World Cup 2023 matches played at this venue. In first match New Zealand chased down the 282 score in just 36 overs in the 2nd innings. Wickets played beautifully for batting under lights.

In 2nd match between India and Pakistan played yesterday 14 Oct, 2023, pitch was flat and there was no grass in the pitch. There was no pace in the pitch and it was on slower side. It was looking at least 280 to 300 pitch. But Pakistan again manufactured a collapse by themselves and all out on absolute flat track for 192.

Pakistan played timidly on this flat track. One time they were 155/2.  Pakistan intent was just timid. But India played with aggressive intent and chased down the total in just 30 overs with loss of just 3 wickets. That tell you about the pitch being flat and no pace and bounce.

But again pitch plays huge role. But there are also other factors for wining the match such as 1. Toss winning 2.  Teams playing in match 3. Home team India playing.

If you look at the 1st match England and New Zealand were strong competitors. New Zealand won the match by winning the toss and chasing on a flat wicket under lights.

If we look at Pak and India match, India was much stronger than Pak. Also won the toss and and to bat 2nd as wicket play more friendly for batting under lights. Also there is some dew factor in the 2nd innings. So India ticked all the boxes perfectly against Pakistan.

Also back of lengths balls are the main weapons on batting friendly tracks. For spin it is perfect to ball wicket to wicket for batters to do mistakes like Jadeja and Kuldeep bowled against Pakistan.

Pitch Analysis and Report of Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad on ODI World Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan dated 14 Oct,2023

Pitch has gone flatter after that last session of rolling, reckons Sanjay Manjrekar on air. Irfan Pathan adds that the conditions are humid, and the ball should swing around early on, while Waqar Younis notes that there’s not much grass on it.

Rohit Sharma Interview after the toss

We will bowl first, cannot get bigger than this, fantastic atmosphere. Sure lot of us are going to experience something really extraordinary. It’s a good track, not going to change much, dew could be a big factor and keeping that in mind, we want to bowl first.

Indian Strategy after observing the pitch in first Innings

Wicket looked flat when the 1st ball was bowled by India. Bowl is coming nicely on the bat. There was no grass on the pitch. Pitch is also on slower side.

India have realized it’s not pacy enough and there’s not much lateral movement too, so they are bowling more back of a length now.

Kuldeep Yadav Interview after 1st innings

I knew where to bowl on this pitch. Difficult wicket to bowl on to be honest, it’s on the slower side. They (Pakistan) were not trying too much, so kept it wicket to wicket varying my pace. First seven overs we didn’t give too much width, they were not trying to do much. Rizwan didn’t sweep me, I was hoping to make him play a bad shot. I have been watching him (Shakeel) sweep a lot or the paddle, so I was trying to keep it wicket to wicket. Luckily I got him.

The pitch was slow but by no means did it have demons. It might even play slightly better under lights and India hold all the aces here after the 1st innings.
