Melbourne Stars Women Won 1st Match of WBBL 2023-24
Melbourne Renegades scored 165-8 in 1st match of WBBL season 9. Top performer was their captain Meg Lanning coming from long break and scored brisk 55 runs in 34 balls with strike rate of 161.76. Meg Lanning hit 1 six and 8 fours.
Other notable performers were Sutherland who scored 34 runs in 22 balls with strike rate of 154.55. Sutherland hit 1 six and 3 fours.
M Bouchier is also another good performer with the bat, scored 25 runs in 16 balls with 1 six and 3 fours. Bouchier strike rate was 156.25.
In chase, Gardner scored 76 brisk runs with 2 sixes and 9 fours. Gardner strike rate was 163.64. Matlian Brown was another notable performance scored 35 runs from 22 balls. She hit 6 fours with strike rate of 159.09.
Ground was a batting paradise at North Sydney Oval, Sydney.
Sydney Sixers won that match by 2 runs. A very close encounter indeed.
Brisbane Heat won their 1st Match in WBBL 2023-24
Grace Harris again started the WBBL 9 with a bang scored brisk 49 from 26 balls with highest strike rate of 188.46. Redmayne also scored 49 from 39 balls. Charlie Knott also scored brisk 23 from 12 balls with strike rate of 191.67. Brisbane Heat is again batting heavy side of WBBL 2023-24.
From Melbourne Renegades, Hayley Mathews took 3 wickets for 30 runs at economy of 7.5. Other notable performance was of Sarah Coyte 30 runs and got 2 wickets with same economy of 7.5. Heat scored 187/9.
In chase world class Beaumont scored brisk 34 from 18 balls with strike rate of 188.89. George Wareham scored 36 runs from 16 balls with strike rate of 225. Kaur scored 31 from 26 balls but with slow strike rate. Other batters failed.
Melbourne Renegades lost the match by 6 runs. But again it is looking that they are depending on Beaumont and Hayley Mathews to score major part of their score.
Sarah Glenn and Charlie Knott were the pick of the bowlers. Glenn took 4 wickets with economy of 5.8 and Charlie Knott took 3 wickets with economy of 8.2.
Sophie Devine Powerful Captain Knock in WBBL 2023-24 1st Match
A brutal captain’s knock from Scorchers skipper Sophie Devine powered her team to a convincing 98-run win over Hobart Hurricanes at University of Tasmania Stadium tonight in their first match of WBBL 2023-24.
Playing the middle-order role she has recently adopted at international level, Devine reached a half-century from 26 deliveries.
It was an innings of total authority and dominance. Sophie Devine lead her team to 186/4 with her brutal innings.
Sophie Devine score 67 runs on 44 deliveries with 2 sixes and 11 fours. Sophie Devine strike rate was 197.73.
In bowling notable performance was from Shabnim Ismail bowled 4 overs for 26 runs with economy of 6.5. Maisy Gibson with economy of 7.2 and Strano with economy of 8.
Their bowling is looking again lethal but I think this is the weakest team in WBBL 9 in terms of their batting.
In reply to 186/4 , Hobart Hurricanes bowled out for 88/10.
Ainsworth on her Debut match for Perth Scorchers Women in WBBL 2023-24
Making her Scorchers debut, young quick Chloe Ainsworth then broke the back of the Hurricanes top order, with the wickets of key pair Lizelle Lee (0) and Heather Graham (0) in her first over.
Ainsworth bowled 3 overs given 10 runs and taken 2 wickets with economy of 3.30.
Melbourne Renegades bowled out for 29/10 against current champions in WBBL 9
In first innings Adelide Strikers Women put a total of 177/3. Katie Mack score brisk 86 on 50 balls with strike rate of 172. Wolvaardt 47 from 36 balls. McGrath 34 from 19 balls.
Sophie Day was the pick of the bowler. Picked 3 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs.
Megan Schutt was the pick of the bowler bowled 3 overs took 3 wickets and given 3 runs. Amanda Jade Wellington also got 3 wickets. McGrath also took 2 wickets. All bowlers were economical and wicket taking. They bowled out Melbourne Stars on paltry total of 29/10 in 9.3 overs.
Brisbane Heat scored highest score of WBBL 2023-24
Brisbane Heat hit highest score of WBBL 9 of 229/7 with Grace Harris as top performer with 136 runs on 59 balls at strike rate of 230.51. A great knock to remember indeed with 11 sixes and 12 fours. M du Preez scored 39 of 23 balls at strike rate of 169.57.
In response Mooney scored 60 from 30 balls with 4 sixes and 6 fours at strike rate of 200.Other notable performance was from Amy Jones 30 from 17 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. They were restricted to 179/8 in 20 overs.
Pick of the bowlers from Brisbane Heat were Courtney Sippel with 4 wickets for 27 runs and Georgia Voll with 1 wicket for 13 runs. Jess Jonassen also took 2 wickets for 32 runs.
Sydney Thunder started their campaign of WBBL 9 with a big win
Sydney Thunder made 190/5. Wilson scored 33 runs from 29 balls. Overseas mighty Athapaththu scored 52 runs from 39 balls with 3 sixes and 5 fours at strike rate of 133. Classy Litchfield scored 54 of 28 balls at strike rate of 192.86 with 3 sixes and 6 fours.
Jess Kerr was the pick of the bowler took 2 wickets for 25 runs.
In response Sydney Sixers Women scored 18/9. Perry scored 31 of 16 balls and Burns 29 of 16 balls. Sydney Thunder Women bowled brilliantly. Lauren Bell, Athapaththu, Knight, Sammay Jo Johnson all were economical and wicket takers.
Adelaide Strikers Women bowled out for 81 in WBBL 9 by Melbourne Renegades Women
With good scores from Beaumont, Dooley, Kaur and Webb, Adelaide Strikers Women scored 167/3 against a good bowling side.
Melbourne renegades restrict then Adelaide Strikers Women for 86/10 with their spin bowling attack. All spin bowlers were on the money. Hayward, Mathews, Wareham and Kaur bowled economical. Sarah Coyte also was economical.
That was a big win by 81 runs by Melbourne Renegades and are now the clear favorites in the WBBL 9.
Adelaide Strikers again won against Melbourne Stars Women in WBBL9
It was 8th match of the WBBL 2023-24. Melbourne Stars again disappointed performance in batting. They only scored 133/6. Mia Bouchier was the pick of the batsman scored 48 runs of 38 balls with 1 six and 6 fours at strike rate of 126.32.
Again Adelaide strikers bowling was lethal and economical. Schutt took 2 wickets for 27 runs. Amanda Jade Wellington was the most economical one and gave only 16 runs in 4 overs. Adams gave 24 runs for 1 wicket. Anesua Mushangwe gave 29 runs and got 1 wicket.
Adelaide Strikers women also struggled in chase and chased the score in 19.4 overs with 6 wickets lost. Katie Mack again raised to the big occasion and scored 48 runs on 40 balls with 6 fours.
From Melbourne Stars women Sophie Day was the pick of the bowler. Bowled 4 overs for 20 runs. Alice Capsey was also bowled economical and given 19 runs with 2 wickets. Sophie Dunkley given 30 runs for 2 wickets.
Sydney Sixers Women lost three on trot in WBBL9
Sydney Sixers scored 146/8 against Brisbane Heat Women. Elyse Perry scored 49 runs on 30 balls with 1 six and 8 fours. While Chloe Tryon scored 42 runs for 33 balls with 1 six and 6 fours.
Nicola Hancock gave 23 runs for 2 wickets at an economy of 5.8. Jonassen gave 25 runs for 2 wickets. Courtney Sippel gave 23 runs for 2 wickets. Georgia Voll given 17 runs for 3 overs for 1 wicket.
For Brisbane Heat Women it was a modest total and chased down the total in 19 overs. Grace Harris again scored 39 runs for 19 balls at strike rate of 205.26 with 3 sixes and 4 fours.
Georgia Voll scored 39 runs for 38 runs. Jonassen scored 27 runs for 19 balls. Brisbane Heat women has the longest batting tail and bat deep. So that total was too easy for them.
Perth Scorchers Women won by 7 wickets against Hobart Hurricanes for WBBL9
The captain Villani scored 39 runs for 26 balls with 7 fours. Naomi Stalenberg scored 54 runs on just 29 balls with 2 sixes and 7 fours. Hobart Hurricanes 158-10 in 20 overs. All other batters struggle except Villani and Stalenberg.
In return Perth Scorchers won the match with comprehensively. Winfield Hill scored 29 runs. Mooney again showed she is a legend of the game and scored 52 runs on just 33 balls with 1 six and 6 fours. Maddy Drake scored 45 runs on 33 balls with 7 overs with strike rate of 136.36. Devine scored 23 runs on 16 balls with 4 fours.
